Reimagining Community Funding Workshop

Reimagining Community Funding - a workshop

Tuesday 25 August 10:00am - Tuesday 25 August 12:00pm

In 2022 the New Zealand government funded a research project to explore if Māori values of localism and collectivism, combined with modern decentralisation technology could reimagine the community grant funding system. The project was guided by the belief: mana motuhake (self-determination) and whanaungatanga (connection) are not just cultural principles, they are powerful design principles for funding systems.Four years on, 20 pilots in 4 countries, the project (originally The Wellbeing Protocol, now hum.community) has proved there is an alternative way to fund social good. There is a way to create a scalable system that:

  • gives marginalised, hard to reach, hyper-local community groups real power to allocate and spend money
  • helps community organisations (e.g. Charity, CIC, social enterprise, community land trust) scale participatory grantmaking
  • gives funders unprecedented efficiency and real-time transparency of data and funds
  • allows funds to "flow" (rather that time gated grant rounds) and respond to real-time data
  • replaces extractive reporting cycles with accountability generated by the process itself
  • helps communities to build governance capability, resilience and wealth in all its forms.

This hands-on workshop, led by hum co-founder Mark Pascall combines presentation, lessons learned, group discussions and interactive demos. You will get inside a live community fund and governance process. It will be a great opportunity for funders or practitioners involved in (or want to learn about) a new approach to participatory grantmaking and trust based philanthropy.

This event is exclusive to London Funders members . To learn more about membership, please email our Membership Manager Nasyah on [email protected].
