The principles for responsible funder behaviour… became a rallying point for funders nationally and internationally
Charity Times has described James as the “vital driving force” behind the collective grantmaker response to the pandemic. London Funders’ work spearheading the ‘We Stand with the Sector’ statement and driving the London Community Response was particularly praised; with Charity Times stating that, “the principles for responsible funder behaviour… became a rallying point for funders nationally and internationally”.
Collaborators and friends in the list
The London Funders team were pleased to see many of our collaborators and friends included in the list of ‘Pandemic Pioneers’. The Ubele Initaitive (Yvonne Field) have been a crucial learning partner as funders navigated how to distribute grants equitably and quickly; the National Youth Agency’s (Leigh Middleton) guidance informed the direction of the London Community Response’s funding for young people; and we were an active participant in the civil society infrastructure group with DSC (Debra Allcock-Tyler) and Charity Comms (Adeela Warley OBE).
We were also delighted to see that our member Javed Khan (Barnado’s) included in the list, as well as NHS Charities Together (Ellie Orton) for their work in supporting frontline workers and the communities they serve - including through our members Imperial Health Charity and King’s College Hospital Charity. In addition, we have been sharing our insights with the Social Change Agency and the Losing Control Network (Esther Foreman), and the #CharitySoWhite collective (Martha Awojobi and Saba Shafi).
Moving towards recovery
As we move towards recovery, we’re making sure to capture the best elements of how we worked over the past 18 months, and are seeking to ensure that London’s civil society continues to pioneer for years and decades to come. You can find out more by reading our series of learning reports, browsing the reflections from our Festival of Learning, and by joining the Flexible Funders movement. And there’s more yet to come from the London Funders team!
