About the role
“An immediate and recurring challenge identified by the advice sector is the difficulty in developing an effective and sustainable career pathway which attracts and builds the workforce. There is a recognition of a lack of capacity and structure within the profession to recognise, reward and grow an effective and dynamic workforce. “
“The age profile of those working in the sector appears to be getting older, and younger people are not joining the sector (or at least not staying in the sector) in sufficient numbers for it to be sustainable.”
“Further particular challenges and opportunities are presented by both BREXIT and the coronavirus pandemic with reductions in the existing workforce and any opportunities for new entrants into it. “
The above are some of the findings from our Addressing Skills Gap research that was published in May 2022. The research highlights the need for advice funders and sector representatives to work together to implement recommendations that include a sector-wide workforce development strategy based on inclusive collaboration; the potential of expanding apprenticeship schemes, NVQ programmes and post-qualification CPD; and further work is undertaken to identify salary benchmarking and address salary and wider employment conditions in contracts. This role is created to bring all the research recommendations under one umbrella and work with the advice workforce steering group members, including funders and sector representatives, to co-produce some solutions that respond to the workforce crisis.
We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic advice sector specialist with a training and development background. You will bring your excellent experience and skills to work across multiple stakeholders, including advice funders, umbrella organisations, community-based advice organisations, local authorities and the private sector, to ensure the programmes funded under this programme run effectively.
You will also lead the development of advice workforce development strategy in collaboration with several stakeholders that are part of steering, advisory and ‘task and finish’ groups.
You do not have to have grant-making experience, as you can learn this on the job.
