About the role
Camden Giving is a local independent charity set-up in 2017 to overcome inequality in the London Borough of Camden. We do this by working closely with businesses to help them be great neighbours to Camden’s communities.
We believe that the people most impacted by inequality should be the ones who decide how money is spent to overcome inequality, so since we were set up, over 350 citizens have worked with us to award over £7million to community projects. We typically award around £1million a year through our 3 grants programmes. Our flagship fund, the Equality Fund, awards unrestricted multi-year grants to equality organisations. In addition, we run a rolling small grant programme that aims to achieve Camden’s Missions by 2030 and we run a youth grantmaking programme focussed on youth safety.
But money alone won’t bring about change we’re also conducted community research to understand how businesses can use their power to achieve equality in other ways, including through recruitment practices, pro-bono support and in-kind donations.
We’re looking for a Chair who is ambitious about the role of businesses in Camden and about participation. Ideally, you’ll have experience of charity governance and connection to Camden, either having worked or lived in our communities. We strongly welcome applications from people who are from Camden’s diverse communities as well as applications from people from groups who are under-represented in charity governance, including, but not limited to, women, LGBTQ+ people, ethnic minorities, young people and people with disabilities.
You’ll share our commitment to justice and inclusion and strive to help this be part of everything we do. Camden Giving employ a small team of staff who run the organisation on a day-to-day basis, leaving the Chair to focus on effective governance.
