Our first insight meeting of the new year will focus on how funders can effectively support charities and social movements' campaigning and advocacy work.
2022 has seen increased criticism and scepticism from politicians of charities’ campaigning work, with “frivolous complaints to the Charity Commission” as well as pieces of legislation designed to limit protest and democratic participation.
What does this mean for charities' ability to campaign effectively – many of whom experience the rhetoric from politicians and regulations under the Lobbying Act as having a “chilling effect” on their ability to speak up against policies that harm the people they support? And how can funders effectively support not just charities, but social movements and activists to campaign for change?
We’ll discuss all of this in more detail at our first insight meeting of the year with the following speakers:
- Alex Farrow, Director of Influencing and Engagement, NCVO
- Esther Foreman, CEO, The Social Change Agency
- Martha Mackenzie, Executive Director, Civic Power Fund
