Funding Mutual Aids and Hyperlocal Volunteering Roundtable

Mutual aid and hyperlocal informal volunteering groups have provided crucial support to people in need throughout the Covid-19 crisis. As communities have moved through different phases of the pandemic the role of these groups has changed. Some groups have become formal charities, many continue to organise activities informally at a community level.

With the potential for other economic and social crises, there is a need to maintain and build on further responses of this kind in the future. This includes building better links between these groups and existing organisations, helping existing groups to develop and helping new groups to start.

Team London at The Greater London Authority (GLA) wants to support and strengthen the activity of these groups to enable stronger, more resilient communities across London. Locality have been commissioned to produce an Online Resource Bank - to help ensure that communities have the information they need to establish mutual aid networks and hyperlocal activity quickly. This will help communities to be responsive to local needs and be empowered to take action.

Locality will be hosting this session alongside London Funders. If you have experience of funding mutual aid groups in London, we would be keen to hear about your learning from the pandemic, successes, challenges and future plans for funding in the informal sector.
