Due Diligence Roundtable

Building on the experience of collaboration between funders during London Community Response, connecting to IVAR’s eight funder commitments for open and trusting grantmaking, and arising from ongoing discussions between funders about opportunities for increasing collaboration, we’re inviting you to join a roundtable to explore aligning approaches to due diligence in London.

Mapping what funders do, and considering how we might work to a common framework, would make the ask clearer to applicants, and simplify their task. Going a step further, a due diligence ‘passport’ (which could cover purely financial due diligence or wider due diligence activities) could reduce the work for applicants who apply to multiple funders, at the same time as reducing the work by each funder which is likely to duplicate most of what another funder has just done.  This has the potential to free up time and resources across civil society.

Wednesday 4 May 4:00pm - Wednesday 4 May 5:30pm

In the meeting, we’ll be mapping the documents that funders ask for in order to assess risk, and the questions you ask about:

  • Finances: how do you identify key information/metrics and where do you find it? Previous accounts, income and expenditure, reserves, budgets/forecasts, fundraising pipelines?
  • Governance: Trustees, structure and sub-committees, skills and expertise, diversity
  • Risk: risk assessment, safeguarding
  • Policies: do you ask to see key policies; if so, which ones and and how do you interrogate them?
  • What else is important to you when assessing risk/completing due diligence?

Please note that all our events are member-only, unless otherwise specified. You can read more about applying to London Funders' membership here.
