Unlocking Assets Network Meeting

24 Oct 2018
314-340 Grays Inn Road, London, WC1X 8DP

There have been lots of conversations happening in the sector recently about community buildings and premises, and making sure that civil society has places to meet, engage and thrive. Recent reports from Locality and Local Trust have given stark warnings about the loss of community buildings and the consequences for community cohesion if groups and organisations don’t have places to gather. Unfortunately this issue is compounded in the capital because of higher rents and limited space.

At the Unlocking Assets meeting, members had the opportunity to hear more about the value of community spaces, ideas on preserving premises and ways which funders can collaborate to #saveourspaces. David Ahlquist (Development Manager, London & SE - Locality) presented on the 'Great British Sell Off' report and Locality's campaign to preserve community buildings. Sophie MacKen (Head of Market Development - Power to Change) also spoke about best practice on funding premises as well as bringing premises back into community ownership.
