Following the publication of the EHRC review of disability inequality Being disabled in Britain: a journey less equal which found that “disabled people are facing more barriers and falling further behind”. The meeting focused on how to improve our awareness and understanding, as funders, of disability equality issues and the role and contribution of deaf and disabled people’s organisations in tackling exclusion and discrimination, strengthening the voice of people with disabilities themselves in campaigning for change, and finding solutions to the challenges they face.

This session featured a presentation from Tracey Lazard, CEO of Inclusion London, including an overview of the issues facing deaf and disabled people, a strategy for how disabled-led organisations can be strengthened in London (which will also be relevant in other areas of the country), and recommendations on how funders could improve their practice. Notes from the meeting will be available soon.
