Making sense of Innovation

15 October: Learning from Funders session

15 October, 3- 5 pm (tea/coffee from 2.45 pm)
Buzzacott LLP, 130 Wood Street, London EC2V 6DL

A discussion on how and why funders encourage and support innovation in the third sector. Many current funding programmes (especially those run by the boroughs) expressly ask for innovative ideas and approaches, linking innovation to sustainability, reduced reliance on public funds and greater efficiency and effectiveness. Are we right to be pursuing innovation with these goals in mind? How do we recognise it?  How do we measure it? Does it always involve risk? What’s the difference between innovative and new? Does innovative always mean “better” or just “different”?

This is part of a series of roundtables titled Learning from Funders, which London Funders holds to provide opportunities for funders to get together to look at good practice in the sector. Previous topics include impact measurement and payment by results, see more here.
