Local welfare provision services and the impact of welfare reform on London 

This joint London Funders, ACO and CPAG event looked back over the last 12 months of local delivery of welfare provision, following the decentralisation of aspects of the Social Fund to local authorities, and drew on the practical experience of local authorities to identify what’s worked and what hasn’t been successful and how this learning can be used to inform the development of local welfare provision over the year ahead, and beyond.

In light of the recent announcement that the £178 million local welfare provision grant will be abolished from 2015/16, the event also considered:

  • Where next for local welfare provision, particularly in light of the implications of Universal Credit;
  • Can funders be expected to “fill the gap”?
  • What action should funders, and other be taking, to highlight their concerns about the impact this cut will have on some of the most disadvantaged people;
