Amsterdam has launched a strategy for the city’s recovery and future post-pandemic based on the doughnut model of economics – where everyone has access to what they need to live a good life, but without putting unsustainable pressure on the planet. Through this in-conversation event London Funders explored how this works in a city context, how the strategy was developed for Amsterdam, how collaborations between sectors and actors can shape the future, and how we can think about new models for the future of our own city beyond covid-19.
We were delighted to be joined for this event by Marieke van Doorninck, who is Deputy Mayor for Sustainability and Spatial Development for the City of Amsterdam. From 2006 until 2014, she was a member of the Municipal Council for the GreenLeft party, of which she was the party chair since 2009. Before that, she worked for different organisations focussing on refugees and women’s rights, and was a co-chair of the Mama Cash Foundation.
