The Haberdashers’ Company is one of the ancient Livery Companies of the City of London, with a continuous history dating back to its first ordinances in 1371. At the heart of our work is the Haberdashers’ Advantage — a holistic approach that blends financial support, governance expertise, volunteering and programme delivery to improve outcomes for young people and the communities in which they live.
We currently fund and provide support to our schools, young people and the communities that surround them in North London, Southeast London, South Wales and the West Midlands.
The Haberdashers’ Company has undergone a significant evolution in its philanthropic work in recent years, following a strategic review in 2022/2023.
The Director for Charities is a senior executive role within the Haberdashers’ Company, responsible for all activity in the areas of grant-making, philanthropy and fundraising. The post holder manages the Grants Administrator and together they execute the decisions and policies of the governing body, the Court of Assistants, and its committees.
The post holder is Secretary to the Charities Committee, which has responsibility for the Company’s charitable grant-making and related activities. The post holder also acts as Secretary to the Foundation Sub Committee, responsible for the Company’s fundraising endeavours. The Director for Charities leads, manages and advises on the Company’s grant-making to both charity partners, Haberdasher churches and individuals, the latter being scholarships, bursaries and awards to pupils and former pupils of the
Haberdasher Schools.
The post holder delivers the philanthropic element of the Company’s purpose: to empower young people from every background to fulfil their potential through our schools and by supporting their communities.
