British Future has examined ways to tackle some of the integration challenges facing London and has proposed a dedicated Office for Citizenship and Integration within the GLA family. The proposal takes the view that integration is a two-way process of mutual accommodation that enables diverse societies to live well together. As such, integration involves Londoners of all backgrounds, not just migrants and minority ethnic communities. The Mayor gave public support for a programme of work on citizenship and integration at meeting of the Citizens Assembly in April 2016. Matthew Ryder has now taken up the new post of Deputy Mayor for social integration, social mobility and community engagement.

London Funders hosted this event for members to hear an overview of the key issues facing London, about the proposed new Office. The meeting provided an opportunity to engage in further action.
